Title: Relationship of Self Esteem and Leadership Styles: A Studyon Women with Leadership Positions in Teaching
Authors: Khurana, Poonam
Issue Date: Feb-2024
Publisher: Empirical Economics Letters
Abstract: The study aims to gauge the relationship between self-esteem and leadership style. Data were collected from 71 women holding leadership, particularly in the teaching sector. The State Self-Esteem Scale and Wisdom Scale were employed as measures of self-esteem and leadership respectively. Particularly, transactional, transformational, and transcendent styles of leadership are taken into consideration. The proposed hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling (PLS). Findings show a significant relationship between self- esteem and leadership styles. Furthermore, high self-esteem has a positive significant relation with transactional and transformational leadership. Low self- esteem has a negative significant relation with the transactional style of leadership. This study helps organisations understand that self-esteem is a significant predictor of a particular style of leadership. Future studies can explore other self-concepts in association with different leadership styles.
